A sleep study, also called a polysomnogram (PSG), is a test that monitors your brain waves, heart rate, breathing, and movement during sleep. Sleep studies are done to find out what might be causing problems with sleeping.
You will be connected to sensors that measure different aspects of your sleep. The sensors are usually placed on your head, chest, and legs. You may also be asked to wear a special cap with sensors attached.
The sensors are connected to a computer that records your sleep patterns. A technologist will watch you sleep and make sure you are comfortable.
