About Dr. Brooks

Health and helping others continued to call to him, so he returned to complete a master in public health in epidemiology and global health at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. During those studies, he conducted research in Ghana and subsequently implemented and established a clustered clinical study along with his principal investigator Dr. Patrick Wilson and local physicians and nurses to determine if affordable CPAP machines could be used to reduced mortality in pediatric patients with respiratory distress in rural hospitals. In an adjusted analysis, CPAP did show a significant decrease in mortality in children one year and younger.

Dr. Brooks went on to study medicine at the University of Queensland-Ochsner program, completing his degree at the University of Queensland School of Medicine in Brisbane, Australia, while  performing his clinical training at the Ochsner Health system in New Orleans, LA.

He went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at the UHS SoCal MEC residency program based in Temecula Valley Hospital. In doing so, he worked at various hospitals and clinics throughout the region, including Corona Regional Medical Center, Inland Valley Medical Center, Rancho Springs Medical Center and Riverside Medical Center.

During his residency training, Dr. Brooks became passionate about pulmonary medicine. In the setting of COVID-19, he became interested in pulmonary management and long-term outcomes of patients who had COVID-19 pneumonia. In addition, he focused research on process and quality improvement of evidence-based and hospital-specific pulmonary embolism treatment guidelines. He is currently an inaugural fellow in the UHS SoCal MEC Pulmonary Disease fellowship.
